Mette Iacovou

Mette Iacovou is our Customer Service Manager. Mette has been with the company since 2021 and handles all the day-to-day operations of the customer service department. Mette recruits, mentors and develops her customer service agents, and provides a nurturing environment where they can excel through encouragement and empowerment.

Mette develops service procedures, policies and standards but most importantly ensures that Dr. Harvey’s provides our customers with an outstanding customer service experience at every point of contact. Mette also educates and speaks with customers every day via phone and email about how to feed their companion animals so they can live longer, happier lives.

Mette has been working in the customer service industry for over 25 years. Mette is truly passionate about providing outstanding customer service. She is very aware that customers are a company’s greatest asset. Customers are wise, savvy, and have choices. It is very important that our customer service replicates the passion and quality we put into our foods and supplements. Mette has also volunteered with several dog rescues as a foster and has helped place many dogs into their forever homes.

Mette is married to the love of her life Perry for 21 years and is a mom to her 2 amazing human children, Ethan and Ella, and mom to 3 fur children, Franklin, Luna, and Asher.

Do you have any pets? What are their names?

I have 2 rescue dogs and 6 chickens. Our dog’s names are Franks and Luna. Franks is a 14-year-old Mini Dachshund mix and Luna is a 2-year-old, what we believe to be a Jack Russell mix. Our chickens are Pearl, Summer, Autumn, Peanut, Chocolate Chip (aka; Chippy) and Oreo.

What Dr. Harvey’s Foods and treats do you feed your pet and why?

I am currently feeding our Canine Health formula along with our Salmon and Krill oil. Franks has kidney disease, so he gets a reduced protein diet and no dog treats. Luna on the other hand loves our Chicken Hearts and Sweet Potoet’r Chews. Who am I kidding? She loves all our treats! I love that Canine Health has a holistic blend of 6 organic grains and 9 dehydrated vegetables. It truly makes preparing fresh food for my pups super easy and I feel good knowing that it has all the vitamins and nutrients my pups need to thrive.

Name a unique fact about yourself?

I was born in Denmark and moved to the United States when I was just 7 years old. I did not speak one word of English when I arrived. It was quite the transition to start in the middle of second grade. I was speaking fluent English within 2 short months. It’s amazing what our brains are capable of at such a young age. I still speak fluent Danish and try to practice as much as I can with my sister and visit Denmark often. I am now married to the love of my life and soulmate, Perry for 21 years and have 2 beautiful children, a boy and a girl named Ethan and Ella.

What is your favorite part of working at Dr. Harvey’s?

Gosh, there are so many to list I don’t even know where to start. This company truly cares about their employees and provides an amazing work environment where you truly feel like you can be your authentic self. Your voice and opinions matter here. You are valued and appreciated. The same amount of energy, care and passion that they put into their employees, they put into their products.
We use the highest quality ingredients, nothing processed, and absolutely no added chemicals, preservatives, dyes or coloring agents. Safety is equally important here at Dr. Harvey’s. Every ingredient must pass an x-ray and metal detection screening to ensure no foreign objects end up in your dog’s food.

We also test for pathogens like Salmonella, E.Coli, and Listeria. Dr. Harvey’s will only work with partners that adhere to the strictest FDA quality standards, including GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), HAACP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and FSMA Compliant (Food Safety Modernization Act). What are some of the biggest myths out there about what to feed your dog?

That feeding your dog raw proteins is dangerous. Dogs have a very short, acidic digestive tract designed for processing raw meat. A dog has a pH value as low as 1! This makes it nearly impossible for salmonella or E. coli bacteria to colonize and multiply.

The idea to bring the raw food diet home was first proposed in 1993 by veterinarian Ian Billinghurst. Termed the BARF diet, or “Bones and Raw Food” diet, Billinghurst argued that dogs would benefit from a diet based on the eating habits of their evolutionary ancestors. He suggested that raw, meaty bones and vegetables were the natural foodstuffs of canines, while grain-based commercial foods were insufficient and actively harmful.
